The train arrived late at night; though, thankfully, most of the station was open. I wandered around the stations trying to translate Czech into some English or German analog for taxi. The fellow at the information station told me that the city had gotten rid of taxis since they were only serving (and ripping off) tourists. My Uber app would work just fine, he said. Now I had to find the way out of the station to the street so that I could call an Uber. A number of station exits were closed; a helpful Security man directed me to the right pickup area. Prague Hlavni Nadrazi – Czech for Prague Main Station – is a mix of the modern (the level I arrived on) and the historic (https://www.seat61.com/stations/prague-hlavni.htm#The_old_station_building). I regret that I did not take pictures of the beautiful Art Nouveau interiors, but I was more focussed on getting to the hotel after the stress of last minute arrangements from Berlin and the 5 hour train journey. My Uber app worked just fine and I soon had a driver who knew where I was heading and drove me to the hotel swiftly. It was also important that I did not need Czech koruna to pay for my ride; for such a short stay, I did not want to get Czech currency. Credit and debit cards plus euros should suffice. I checked in, and though the hotel bar had just closed, I found a handy vending machine.
