Monday April 15th was a productive day: breakfast, a haircut and a beard trim, a stop at an ATM, lunch at the Grosvenor Hotel – there were tables outside and a bit of a breeze to cool me from walking around the CBD (central business district) as well as some classic iron work decorations and people-watching to enjoy. Thanks to the barmen at the Grosvenor, I understand the “spotty” service at the Hyatt lounge better now – the normal custom in Australia is to order and pay at the bar before you get your food. Table service in a bar or pub is minimal. My green curry chicken at lunch was delicious and too big a dish for me to finish, but I was able to get a take-away box. On the way back to the hotel, I stopped at an Australian Post office to look into costs for sending some things back home – about $40AUD/kg with tracking and air transport – it might be worth it but the rate seemed high. I also found a chemist across the street from the post office where I picked up toothpaste, allergy meds and diclofenac (for my knee). I walked back to the hotel and made it to my room to lie down for a while before an early dinner. I scheduled a Rottnest Island tour for the 16th and I have to be at the pick-up point by 8:05 am… Day 49 of my trip and I am over halfway around the world from Boston.
